Abstract

Objective: This study examines the manifestations of the Islamic orientation in the poetry of Amina Qutb and the role of an Islamic worldview in shaping her poetic expression. It situates her work within Islamic literature, a modern literary movement articulated in response to the spread of Western literary schools in the Islamic world. The movement’s emergence in the 1950s is associated with Islamic revival and efforts to recover cultural identity. Addressing the stated absence of an independent study devoted to this dimension of her poetry, the research identifies its principal religious themes and explores the relationship between faith, ethics, and lived experience.
Method: The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach to examine the Islamic themes and perspectives expressed in Qutb’s poetry. It considers her work within a conception of literature grounded in an Islamic understanding of the universe, life, and humanity. The analysis focuses on recurring religious subjects, the poet’s relationship with her surroundings, and the ways religious and moral commitments regulate the expression of reason and emotion.
Results: The findings indicate that jihad and resistance, chastity and purity, religious occasions, supplication, and prayer constitute prominent themes in Qutb’s poetic production. Her Islamic vision also informs her engagement with everyday experience and her perception of contrasting conditions, including comfort and hardship, happiness and misery. This perspective extends to her interaction with surrounding things and their poetic animation. Although sadness and pain are conspicuous features of her poetry, their expression remains bounded by religious conviction and ethical principles. These elements reveal a poetic approach characterized by moderation and balance in the treatment of emotional experience.
Conclusion: The study concludes that the Islamic orientation in Amina Qutb’s poetry encompasses both thematic content and her interpretation of life. Religious commitments connect devotional subjects with personal suffering and everyday experience, giving her poetry a coherent ethical direction. Her treatment of sorrow demonstrates the relationship between emotional expression and moral restraint, while moderation and balance emerge as defining characteristics of her poetic approach.
