Abstract

Objective: This study examines the religious and ethical dimensions of Ibn Haddad al-Andalusi’s poetry by analyzing the representation of religious virtues and the poet’s engagement with Quranic teachings. Its central objective is to clarify the relationship between Quranic concepts and their expression within the semantic and artistic organization of his poems. The study considers how religious content is conveyed through poetic language, with particular attention to the relationship between thematic representation and forms of artistic expression.
Method: The research adopts a descriptive–analytical method based on the extraction and examination of textual evidence from the poet’s collected works. The analysis investigates semantic, linguistic, rhetorical, and imagistic connections between Quranic verses and the poems. Religious virtues are examined both as poetic themes and in relation to their role in shaping imagery and expressive structures. The approach brings these dimensions together to examine how Quranic elements function within the poetic contexts represented by the selected evidence.
Results: The findings indicate that virtues such as patience, trust in God, asceticism, piety, and justice contribute to the artistic organization and intellectual orientation of Ibn Haddad’s poetry alongside their thematic presence. Quranic influence appears through vocabulary and direct borrowings, the recreation of concepts, rhetorical structures, metaphors, and poetic imagery. These forms of expression are connected to the religious and ethical outlook represented in the poems and contribute to the communication of meaning and the strengthening of emotional expression. The examined evidence thus shows that religious themes and artistic devices interact in the poet’s treatment of Quranic teachings.
Conclusion: The study concludes that the Quran can be regarded as one of the sources of inspiration shaping Ibn Haddad’s poetic themes and artistic expression. Within the limits of the examined evidence, his poetry reflects the presence of religious culture in the literary environment of al-Andalus and its recreation through poetic language. These findings clarify the relationship between religious virtues, Quranic concepts, and their artistic representation in his poems.
