Prophetic poetry is one of the forms of religious poetry that has undergone fundamental transformations over time. In contemporary Arabic literature, unlike its traditional form, this type of poetry has become connected with the sufferings and crises of Islamic societies and has acquired social and political dimensions. Focusing on the poetry of Abdullah al-Baradouni, the present study examines this poetic genre and seeks to answer the question of which aspects of the Prophet’s (PBUH) personality have gained particular prominence in this poet’s works.
The results show that al-Baradouni, as a deeply concerned poet, links his concerns with prophetic poetry and creates a form of committed socio-political poetry. In his poetry, prophetic praise goes beyond mere eulogy and the expression of the Prophet’s (PBUH) virtues, turning into a symbol of protest and criticism of the existing situation. Inspired by the personality of the Prophet (PBUH) and his role in combating oppression, al-Baradouni criticizes the injustice prevalent in society and calls upon Muslims to follow this excellent model in steadfastness and resistance against tyranny.
Accordingly, the titles and epithets of the Prophet (PBUH) in al-Baradouni’s poetry, in addition to their honorific and religious function, acquire a critical role. In his poetry, these titles not only serve to honor the Prophet (PBUH), but also convey concepts such as guidance, justice, unity, and opposition to oppression. By establishing a connection between prophetic praise and human concerns, al-Baradouni transforms prophetic poetry into a space where faith, justice-seeking, and social criticism coexist.
